SFGAA Pub League - A New Tradition?

In the autumn and winter months of 2022, SFGAA hosted their very first 7 a side Pub League which saw over 160 players registering for both hurling and football. After an overwhelming and unexpected response for our first “trial run” Pub League, we were able to put together 10 teams of 15 players consisting of young, old, retired, beginners, men and women.

Football final between O’Neills and Behans.

With the support of 10 generous local Bay Area pubs, and a partnership with newly formed Outfield Clothing, we were able to quickly turn around and design 10 brand new limited edition 2022 Pub League jerseys.

After the Pub League Draft Night, where we randomly assigned each player to their team, we then played games over the course of 3 Saturdays. One in October, one in November, and one in December. While all 3 days produced drastically different weather reports, we made the most of each day, and over 15 games were played across the pitch.

On the last and final day, we hosted a cross bar challenge sponsored by two more generous pubs which saw one winner of both football and hurling!

All in all, the 2022 Pub League was a great success. We hope to continue the tradition and build on this, always improving and offering more games to the members of SFGAA during the off season.

These tournaments could not be pulled off without the hard work put in by the volunteers and board members. A big thank you to Alisha, Conor, Mike, Jen and Roisin who helped organize such a huge event. If you are interested in helping out in 2023, please reach out!

Big thank you to our sponsoring pubs!
