Celebrating Irish Heritage at San Francisco City Hall

San Francisco’s Irish community gathered in great spirits on Friday, March 7th, for the annual Irish flag-raising ceremony at City Hall. This cherished tradition honors the deep cultural ties between Ireland and the Bay Area and brings together local leaders, dignitaries, and members of the Irish community to celebrate heritage, unity, and pride.

Among those in attendance were Micheál Smith, Consul General of Ireland; Mark Gorman, Grand Marshal of this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Board Member of the United Irish Cultural Center (UICC); and Seamus Collins, Chairperson of the San Francisco GAA. Their presence highlighted the enduring connections between Irish organizations in San Francisco and the importance of keeping our cultural traditions alive.

The flag-raising ceremony with Mayor Daniel Lurie serves as a vibrant kickoff to the city’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and reminds us of the rich history and contributions of the Irish in San Francisco. With the parade, community events, and of course, exciting Gaelic games on the horizon, we look forward to celebrating the strength, passion, and camaraderie that define Irish culture.

Opening day is Sunday, April 12th. Click here to see the St. Patrick’s Cup fixtures and results, and be sure to follow San Francisco GAA for more ways to get involved!
